Historic George Tennis Club Serves Up 105 Years of Sporting Excellence
On 10 May 2025 the Club celebrated a century of tennis at the George Tennis Club, commemorating the club’s 105th anniversary. Over sixty members, including visiting members from other Eden clubs, participated in a mini tournament during the day and were joined by family and friends for celebrations into the evening. An artfully decorated clubhouse, festive music and a Spit Braai to die for coloured in an unforgettable evening.
Committee Chair Mr. Jan Pienaar spoke about tennis history over the last century and highlighted how semigration to the George municipal area has contributed to the club’s impressive growth, with membership now reaching 150 active players. The celebration was made even more special by the presence of Oom Jan Kombrink, one of the club’s longest-serving members, who shared some cherished memories and proudly stands as the namesake of one of the courts.
